HENDERSON, Kathleen "Kay" May1921 – 2015Kay Henderson of Calgary, AB passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the age of 93 years. Kay was born in Calgary, AB on May 19, 1921. In 1941, she married Len Henderson and they began 66 years of married life. Len served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) with stops in Patricia "Pat" Bay, BC; Dauphin, MB; Ottawa, ON and Lethbridge, AB. Upon returning from the service, Len and Kay settled in Lethbridge, AB, but returned to Calgary, AB shortly thereafter to continue the family business: "Henderson Floral". Len and Kay lived in their home on the North Hill for 64 years. They were very active in the Mount Pleasant Community Association serving as volunteers in many capacities. Kay and Len were also active members of Rosedale United Church, where the Henderson Family helped build the sanctuary brick by brick. Kay had a passion for bowling, card evenings and dancing. There was nary a Saturday that wasn't spent with special friends and neighbors cutting a rug. Even after a late Saturday night she always made a special Sunday dinner for her family. Kay always placed the wants and needs of others first and was always there with a hot cup of tea or coffee. Kay shared her love of baking with friends, neighbors, family and anyone needing a cheer up visit or a comforting chat. She will be fondly remembered by those who knew her as the Number One Fan of the Calgary Stampeders and the Calgary Flames. Kay embodied true western values and believed that a friend is always a friend and when someone is down on their luck, you picked them up and dusted them off, with a kind gesture. Kay is survived by her four sons: Mel (Heather), Ron (Peter), Ross (Sandie) and Kevin (Judy). She is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Kay was predeceased by her husband Len in 2007; son David; parents John and Barbara Melvin; sister Barbara (Bunty) Tyndale, and special nephew Jack (Florence) McKenzie. The Henderson Family wishes to Thank all the special people who assisted her while she was a resident of the Harbours of Newport , Chinook Care Center, and her special friend Brenda who stopped by for a daily visit. We would also like to thank the Emergency Room Personnel at the Rockyview General Hospital for their compassionate care in her last few hours. In her spirit of giving back, the family would like you to consider a donation to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. A Celebration of Kay's Life will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.GO STAMPS GO! - GO FLAMES GO!FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, Telephone: 403-297-0888, Honoured Provider of Dignity Memorial
