Kathleen Fambrough Davis went home to be with the Lord on October 19, 2011. She was born in Oneonta, AL on November 25, 1917. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lorenzo Davis and by her son, Fabert Talmadge Davis. She is survived by her grandsons, Stuart (Ruth) Davis of Helotes, Texas and Michael Davis of Marietta, Georgia; great grandchildren, Marcella, Rose and Belle Davis of Helotes, Texas and Riley and Alexa Davis of Marietta, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Frieda (Charles) Dixon of Kennesaw, Georgia; two sisters, Florence (Clifford) Griffith and Christine (George) Hawkins of Ragland; sister-in-law, JoAnn Fambrough of Moody; numerous nieces and nephews. Kathleen worked as a clerk at the Ragland Post Office for six years before her appointment by President Harry Truman as Postmaster in 1951. She served in that position until 1982. She was a member of many postal organizations during her term of service. After her retirement she traveled and studied with the Elderhostel program throughout the United States. She was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Ragland and a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 150. She was a member of the Historical Societies of Ragland and St. Clair County. She served on various senior citizens' committees in Ragland that worked to initiate programs for the aging. She had a true love of people, especially the less fortunate and loved and appreciated the simple things of life. The funeral service was held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Usrey Funeral Home on Hwy. 231 in Pell City with the Revs. Edwin Talley and Douglas Ford officiating.
