Katherine-Rita Miller, born in 1910, spouse of Charles-William Miller, mother of Joyce, died on February 20, 2003 at 93 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
MILLER Katherine Rita (Cody) Miller, age 93, died peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2003, in the company of the family who loved her. Mrs. Miller was a lifelong resident of Connecticut, most recently of the Lordship section of Stratford, and was predeceased by her husband, Charles William "Bud" Miller. She was a devout Catholic who always put her family ahead of herself. For years, she lovingly and selflessly cared for her brother-in-law, John "Jack" Jarvis, until his death, and for her sister, Margaret Jarvis, until her own health would not allow her to continue. Growing up in Bridgeport, she was a star forward on Central High School s girls basketball team - playing in a skirt! - and was mischievously proud of her reputation as "Class Giggler." She served her country with the American Red Cross during World War II and enjoyed a long career as the assistant to the president of the Credit Bureau of Connecticut, a job she loved and at which she was very skilled. Though traditional in many ways, she had a fiery spirit and inspired independence, especially in her granddaughters. She was blessed with the birth, late in life, of only one daughter, and waited with great joy as her offspring grew into the large family she had wanted. Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter, Joyce Kenney of Bridgeport; four grandchildren, Julie Singleton of Collinsville, Brenda Lajara of Bridgeport, Jay Rodriguez of Shelton and Darlene Rodriguez of Wallingford; and eight great-grandchildren, Derek and Kendra Singleton, Raphael, Andrew and Cody Lajara, Taylor and Sydney Rodriguez, and Katherine Perkins. She was also predeceased by a ninth great-grandchild, Brendan Lajara. No services will be held. To the staff at Lord Chamberlain Nursing Facility and Rehabilitation Center, on Thursday, February 20, 2003, our beloved grandmother, Katherine Miller, passed away. We want to thank you sincerely for the excellent care you provided her right up until her very last day. While we all took turns visiting our "Nana," some of us more frequently than others, we all appreciated resting assured that in our absence, she had a professional, skillful and concerned group of people looking out for her well being day and night. You really cared about her, and that showed. We know she was an inspiration to you; she was to everyone who got to know her. Our "Nana" was a fighter. She was strong and she had spunk. We hope that she left some little memory for each of you who touched her life that will make you smile whenever you think of Mrs. Miller in room 320.
