KATHERINE "KAY" JULIA HARTMay 17, 1919 – March 19, 2016Kay, late of Regina, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the age of 96 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Douglas. Kay is survived by her loving family, daughter Ann Hart of Kenosee Lake, SK and son William (Catherine) of Montreal; grandchildren Holly (Gerard) Kay of Regina, Ryan Allison (Holly) of Kansas City, Missouri, Robert (Lisa) Allison of Taiwan, Sydney Hart (Bopha) of Vancouver, BC and Jessica Hart (Guy) of Montreal; five great-grandchildren Katherine, Alexandria and Stephanie Kay of Regina, Ella Allison of Kansas City, Missouri and Jayden Allison of Taiwan. Kay was born at Grand River, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She was the last surviving member of the Smith family. Kay obtained her grade twelve at Sydney Academy and later attended Empire Business College in Sydney. School officials offered Kay a teaching position as many of the teachers had been called away to serve in World War II. She left the business world and taught for one year in a one-room school, the same school she herself had attended. She then moved on to Halifax where she met Douglas who was in the Canadian Navy. They moved to Regina where they started a family and would reside for the rest of their married life. For many years, Kay worked in various office positions in Regina including Saskatchewan Department of Social Services where she made many treasured friends. She was an active member of Lakeview United Church. In her younger years, she taught Sunday School, was a member of the United Church Women, the Couples Club and the Square Dance Club, She was also an active volunteer with Neighborhood Watch, Lakeview School and Sheldon Williams Collegiate. Kay kept in close touch with friends and family in Canada, United States, Australia and France. Funeral Service will be held at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Kay''s name to William Booth Special Care Home, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK, S4R 8P6.
