KATHERINE E. JOHNSON PORTAGE, IN Katherine E. Johnson, age 59, of Portage, passed away Friday, November 5, 2010 at home surrounded by her loving family. Katherine had been a Portage resident for 22 years and lifelong Northwest Indiana resident. She was a graduate of Hammond High School and then graduated from Purdue University, Lafayette Campus. Katherine was an elementary teacher who taught school at St. Stanislaus School in East Chicago for 15 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Edward Johnson; son, Thomas (Ruth) Johnson of Reston, VA; two daughters: Elizabeth (Todd) Avery of Crown Point and Julia (Benjamin) Atkinson of Portage; granddaughter, Emma Johnson and her best friend, Nancy Uncapher of Gary. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 8, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, with Msgr. John J. Siekierski officiating.
