MARVIN, N.C. – Dr. Katherine "Katie" Strong Barnes, DVM, age 33, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014. She was born Sept. 22, 1980, in Charlotte, the daughter of James "Jim" Strong and Barbara Smith Strong and was the wife of Shaun Barnes. Mrs. Barnes received her doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of Georgia, worked in research and development for Nutramax Laboratories Inc. and was a member of the Mecklenburg Hounds Inc. Fox Hunting Club. Dr. Barnes is survived by her husband, Shaun Barnes of Marvin; her father, James "Jim" Strong of Charlotte; her mother, Barbara Smith Strong of Frankfurt, Ind.; two brothers, Matthew Maxwell of Chicago, and Andrew Maxwell of Blaine, Wash.
