JAN, Karen RuthKaren Ruth Jan, resident of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away at home on November 19, 2013 at the age of 60 after a courageous 17-year battle with cancer. Karen is predeceased by her father, Lloyd V. Jan. Karen is lovingly remembered by her mother, Shirley Jan of Annapolis, MD; her brother, Kolin Jan and his wife, Pamela Jan of Ridgeley, WV; her sister, Lisa Jan of Swanton, MD; her sister, Mary Ellen Seehafer and her husband, Erich Seehafer of Bryan's Road, MD, and her brother, Eric Jan and his wife, Deborah Jan of Annapolis, MD. She is also lovingly remembered by her nephews, Bryan Jan and Ryan Jan, and her nieces, Jessica Hill, Lauren Hill, Reade Harbitter, Evin Harbitter, Roxanne Harbitter, Kaitlyn Jan, and Kelly Jan. Karen was born in Austin, MN in 1953 and graduated from Severna Park High School in 1972. After high school she worked as a secretary at the United States Naval Academy before embarking on a 30 plus year career as a chef aboard private motor yachts. Karen enjoyed traveling the world, needlepoint, crafting, drawing, painting, reading, and amazing people with her culinary artistry. She lived her life with passion and loved her friends and family above all else. In lieu of a funeral, Karen has requested that her family and friends gather to celebrate her life. The date, time and location for such a celebration have not yet been set.
