Karen Mahoney Died - January 8, 2011 Mystic - Karen E. Mahoney, 64, of Mystic, beloved wife of Thomas Mahoney passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 8, 2011 at home. Born in Cadott, WI she was the daughter of the late William and Mildred Chmelik and lived in Mystic for the past 13 years. Karen resided in Ledyard from 1962 and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1964. They raised their family in Ledyard until moving to Mystic in 1997. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother who will be deeply missed. Karen was also the room mother at the Ledyard Center School for many years and a member of the Ladies Guild at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry. Besides her husband she leaves her two sons, Dr. Timothy Mahoney of Pittsfield, MA and Stephen Mahoney of Holliston, MA; five sisters, Marge Lorenz of Mystic, Dorothy Johnson of Cornell, WI, Rosemary Steinmetz and Judy Gindt both of Boyd, WI., and Debra Zimmerman of Spring Valley, WI.; five beloved grandchildren, Chloe, Norah, Rosemary and Harold Mahoney and Patrick Vander Venett; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen LaTour and her husband, Harold, of Baltic. Funeral services will begin Wednesday January 12th at 11:30 A.M. at the Mystic Funeral Home Route 1 Mystic (51 Williams Ave.) followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 P.M. at St. Patrick Church 32 East Main St. Mystic. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family on Thursday at St. Joseph Cemetery Boswell Ave. Norwich. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
