Karen-Anne-Haas Smith, born in 1963, spouse of Scott Smith, daughter of Fred and Eleanor, died on June 10, 2011 at 48 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Karen Smith, age 48, of Flowery Branch passed away on Friday, June 10, 2011, after a 3 ½-year battle with breast cancer.Memorial services will be held on the campus of Eagle Ranch at the Wink Wynne Lodge on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dave Channell will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service. Please wear pink or lighter-color clothing if possible. Eagle Ranch is located at 5500 Union Church Road in Flowery Branch.Karen was born in Denver, Colo., to Eleanor and Fred Haas. She earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss. She was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church.Karen was surrounded by her immediate family, sisters, mother and father. Her husband of 26 years, Scott, and their three children - Cheryl (24), Kyle (20) and Megan (16) - will carry on her legacy of always putting others first. Karen's parents, sisters Linnea and Janet, and brother Robert, are proud witnesses of the amazing strength she demonstrated. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Jaryd; her niece, Dawn; her nephew, Ron; and four great-nieces and great-nephews. Karen was most recently employed by the YMCA of Hall County as program director of health and wellness, a job she loved. In that capacity and others, she helped and inspired so many people, including being a steady support for other cancer survivors. She was brave and persevering throughout her struggle with cancer, maintaining a spirit of peace that will remain with all surviving family members forever. We will never forget Karen; she will always live in our hearts, and the rest of our lives will be dedicated to service in her honor.Karen's wish is that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Eagle Ranch, P.O.
