Ray graduated from Furman University in 1950, where he was an active member of student volunteers and Chi Phi Chi fraternity, and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was the former cost manager at J. P. Stevens, a member and past President of the Piedmont Lions Club, and delivered Meals on Wheels. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont, he served as an honorary deacon, chairman of the board, Sunday School teacher (Bob Alexander Class), a member of Men on Mission, and a member of the choir.He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Jennie Long Johnson; son, William (Bill) Johnson; daughter, Ann Rousseau (Brian); grandson, William (Will) Johnson; sister, Susie Saylors; brother, Sammy Johnson; and a special cousin, Anita Lee. Visitation will be 1-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Piedmont with funeral services following at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
