ANDERSON - Dr. Julia S. age 70, Director of Music Ministries at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Glen Rock, NJ died at Holy Name Hospital on December 19, 2003. She was a native of Womelsdorf, PA, born August 20, 1933. Dr. Anderson received a B.S. in Music Education from West Chester State College; a Master of Arts degree from New York University; a Master's Degree in Sacred Music from Union Theological Seminary's School of Sacred Music; and a Doctorate in College Teaching from Columbia University (Teachers College). Dr. Anderson studied with Willy Richter, Arthur Jones, Harry Wilkinson, Frederick Swann (primary teacher), Claire Coci and Grady Wilson. She taught in the Chichester Joint Schools (Boothwyn, PA) for 12 years and at William Paterson College (Wayne, NJ) for 26 years where she served as Professor of Organ and Conducting and directed the Concert Choir, the Woman's Choral Ensemble, the Chorale and the Men's Glee Club. Dr. Anderson performed as organ recitalist, oratorio accompanist and choral conductor throughout the metropolitan New York City and Philadelphia areas. She also performed at various European sites. Dr. Anderson also performed many organ/harp recitals with Dr. Jane B. Weidensaul (the Julliard School, Manhattan School of Music and William Paterson College.) Dr. Anderson served as Organist/Choir Director at Zion Lutheran Church (Womelsdorf, PA), Calvary Lutheran Church (West Chester, PA), Westfield Congregational Church (Westfield, NJ), Grace Episcopal Church (Orange, NJ), Christ Episcopal Church (Ridgewood, NJ) and, most recently, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (Glen Rock, NJ). Survivors are sisters Virginia Zellers, (Wernersville, PA) and Rosalie Hertzog (Downingtown, PA); nephew Christopher Hertzog (Downingtown, PA) and nieces Jaime Hertzog (West Chester, PA) and Gretchen Hertzog (Downingtown, PA) and Andrea Zellers (Wernersville, PA). A memorial service will be held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, to be announced.
