Obituary of Julia-May Morris


Julia May (Williams) Morris of Nichols Julia May (Williams) Morris, 82, of Cole Hill Rd., passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, September 4, 2007. She was born on February 7, 1925 in Nichols, a daughter of the late Floyd and Georgianna (Brown) Williams. Julia attended Nichols High School, graduating in 1942. On September 1, 1949 in Nichols, she married Fay F. Morris and together they celebrated 58 years of happiness. Julia was employed at Ingersoll Rand during WWII and in 1975 she started working in the Post Office in Nichols, Endicott and Waverly. In 1980, she became Postmaster of the Davenport Post Office and retired in 1990 following 15 years of service from the Odessa Post Office. Following her retirement, Julia worked at the Guthrie Clinic for five years, retiring in 1997. Julia was a member of the Nichols United Methodist Church and for over twenty-five years sang in the church choir. In addition, she was a past member of the Elmwood Rebekah Lodge, Order of Eastern Star of Nichols, Zonta International of Watkins Glen and the National Association of Retired Postmasters. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was very proud of all of them and their accomplishments. Julia enjoyed church music, knitting, quilting, reading and needlework. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Julia is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Fay; her six children, Rebecca Jane Morris McDonald, Bruce Edward and his wife, Anne Morris, Margaret Morris and her husband, Eric Moyer, Daniel Francis and his wife, Sherry Morris, Andrew Fay and his wife, Leslie Morris, Jennifer Morris and her husband, Jeffrey Hanford. Her sister-in-law, Mabel Williams; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. A time of remembering the special gift Julia was to all of us will be held on Saturday, September 8th, at 1 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 South Main St., Nichols. The family will receive friends at a time of sharing memories from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral chapel.
