Obituary of Julia-Mae-Carnes-Durham Mitchell


Mrs. Julia Mae Carnes Durham Mitchell, 90, Gadsden, formerly of Fort Payne, passed away Wednesday Jan. 25, 2012, at Northside Nursing Home.Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today from W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens with the Rev. David Adcock officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. today.Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Billie H. and Betty Durham, Spokane, Wash.; grandchildren, Karen Ioane, Teresa Garcia, Chynena Ayers, Deirdra O'Neill, John Brown; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Pauline Allen, whom she loved dearly and who took care of her until the end; and several nieces and nephews.Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husbands, Hugh Durham and Clyde Mitchell; sister, Nina McKibben; and brothers, Hershel (Mary) Carnes, Hoyt (Evelyn) Carnes and Clifford (Dennie) Carnes.Mrs. Mitchell attended the Gospel Truth Lighthouse Church. She was loved by so many and always loved to see people come knock on her door. She was a devout Christian woman and would pray for you or with you. She enjoyed listening to Gospel music and reading the Bible.Special thanks to Dr. Courtney Lowe, Northside Nursing Home and all the staff who had a hand in caring for her; and to Pat Holloway, Barbara Dunnivant, Dorothy King and Wilma Smith for all their love and friendship through the years.
