NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Julia Paisley Goodwin, 92, of Maple Street, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008. Julia was a strong Christian woman who awoke every morning thanking God for His gift of another day.She was born March 4, 1916, in Bath, Maine, daughter of William J. and Minnie Rowe Paisley. Julia graduated from Morse High School in 1934 and attended Northeastern Business College in Portland, Maine.In 1938, she married Curtis E. Goodwin of North Berwick, with whom she owned and operated Goodwin Enterprises, Inc. for many years. Julia was a Red Cross Volunteer Nurses Aide at Knox County Hospital during World War II. She also was a member and Past President, Secretary and Historian of Quint-Cheney American Legion Post 87 Auxiliary. She was member, former deaconess and choir member of the North Berwick Congregational Church as well as a member and Past President of the North Berwick Historical Society.Julia was the matriarch of her family; the glue that kept them connected. She was an excellent cook and able to make a banquet from a can; serving it with the finest of settings handed down from her ancestors. Julia loved music and played the violin. She enjoyed card games, bowling, making doughnuts, pies and biscuits; enjoyed a cup of tea and visiting shut-ins. She also valued her Scottish roots.Julia lived a very independent life; caring for her husband in their home for as long as she was able. Curtis Goodwin, her husband of 69 years, passed away in January of 2008. She was also predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.She leaves two daughters, Kendra E. Blake and husband, Lawrence, of North Berwick and Homosassa, Fla.; Elaine G. Baker and husband, Edward, of Lebanon, Maine; son, Robert D. Goodwin and wife, Susan, of Brewer, Maine; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; nieces, nephews and Kali, her cat companion.Visiting hours will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the First Congregational Church of North Berwick immediately followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery. Family flowers only. Friends who wish may contribute to the Congregational Church or the D.A. Hurd Library, 41 High Street, North Berwick; Another Chance Animal Rescue, P.O.
