Obituary of Judith-M. Brown


She was born in Lowell on May 9, 1927, daughter of the late Dr. Orland S. Marshall and Stella (Conti) Marshall. She graduated from Howe High School in 1945, where she was valedictorian of her class. She later received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the Jackson College of Tufts University in 1949.Following graduation, Mrs. Brown worked as a secretary for Crane Theological Seminary at Tufts University. She later worked in the field of intelligence measurement within the Belmont school system.Following her marriage, she moved to Wood, S.D. and began a ministry with her husband. She taught Sunday school and was the church's secretary. She was also a clerk for the Wood School Board and a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Brown moved to Craftsbury in 1961, where she worked as secretary to the head master of Sterling School and the principal of Craftsbury Academy. She later moved to Ireland for three years while her husband served in a parish there.She was a member of the UCC Ladies Union, Searchlight Club, Craftsbury Historical Society, Library Association, Horse and Buggy Club and the Greensboro Kazoo Band.Besides her husband, survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Belinda Brown and her husband, Phil Lovely, of Craftsbury, and Gretchen Brown-Boudreau and her husband, Peter, of Portland, Ore.; a son, Timothy Marshall Brown of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter-in-law, Huch Kou of Long Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Kate, Benjamin and Molly Boudreau of Portland, Ore., Zachary and Joshua Brown of Albuquerque, N.M., and Bobby, Diana and Elizabeth Brown of Long Beach, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. John Marshall and his wife, Mary, of Hernando, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Richter Bohannon and her husband, Richard, of Craftsbury; and many nieces and nephews.Mrs. Brown was also the mother of Christopher Marshall Brown, who died in November.
