Moore, 89, Webster Springs, W.Va., formerly of Menia Bridge, Wales, and Sarasota, died Oct. 23, 2007.A memorial service will be Nov. 3 in Webster Springs. Dodd & Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include granddaughters Jana C. Moore, Wilmington, N.C., and Tess Morgan Moore, Huntington, W.Va; grandson, Derek Rowland Moore, Huntington; great-granddaugther, Emeline Moore McCaleb, Wilmington; great-grandson, David Reace Moore, Huntington; and several nieces and nephews.A daughter of the late John C. Rowlands and Gladys Dawson Rowlands, she was born at Menia Bridge, Wales, and spent her early years in London where her father was the headmaster of a preparatory school.She and her husband, Robert W. Moore, met in England during World War II, when he was serving with the U.S. Armed Forces and she was a member of the Women's Royal Naval Service. As a member of that organization, she worked with a group on the Enigma Project that successfully broke German wartime codes.A resident of Webster Springs and Sarasota, Mrs. Moore was chairman of the board of Webster Woodlands. She was a member of several environmental organizations, Main Street Webster Springs, the Woman's Club, the Garden Club, and she attended the Webster Springs United Methodist Church. She and her husband formed the Webster County Wildflower and Nature Tour in 1962.In addition to her husband of 49 years, she was preceded in death by one son, David R. Moore; also one sister, Jessie R. Darling; and one brother, Arthur Rowlands.The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Moore be made to the Webster County Humane Society, P.O. Box 14, Erbacon, WV 26203.
