McDONALD, Joyce E. (nee Leask) Joyce passed away peacefully on May 18, 2013 at the age of 85, after a lengthy illness. She was born in 1928 on a farm near Naicam, Saskatchewan, raised in Flin Flon, Manitoba and went to work at CN Railways after high school where she met her husband, Ken. After numerous transfers with CN all over Western Canada, the family finally settled in Edmonton in 1966. Joyce was always very active; speed skating as a girl, curling at the Balmoral, golfing, playing bridge, and was well known for leaving everyone in the dust while speed walking though the neighbourhood.She will be lovingly remembered by daughters: Dianne, Sussanne and Heather; grandchildren: Dylan (Shannon), Laura and Courtney; great-grandson, Miles; five sisters; "adopted" family members: Enid, Sharon and Bill; and numerous other relatives and friends. Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Ken (K.G.); five brothers; six sisters; and her parents, Mattie and Harold.The family would like to thank Alastair Choi and Dr. Sharon Vaselenak for their dedication to her health over many years, the staff of 4G4 and 3G2 at the University of Alberta Hospital, and her devoted caregivers, Alma and Ebele, who provided so much expertise, comfort and compassion during her last months.A gathering of family and friends to Celebrate Joyce's Life will be announced at a later date.
