JOYCE BARKLEY MILLERJoyce passed away on December 7, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Predeceased by her parents, Margaret Jean (Gillis) and George Adam Miller; brothers, Del McLaren and Eugene Gillis; sister-in-law, Mary Olive (Cheriton); Joyce is survived by her nephews, George (Tanis) of Calgary AB, and Ross (Danielle) of Ottawa ON. Joyce was born April 18, 1922 and raised on the family farm near Willows, SK. She attended Kandiyohi Country School and Assiniboia High School, as well as Regina College and the University of Saskatchewan, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Household Science in 1943. She started her career as a dietetic intern at the Ottawa Civic Hospital in 1944 but returned to Saskatchewan in 1945-46 when her father''s health deteriorated. She became a staff dietician at the Moose Jaw General Hospital and later the RCMP Training Academy in Regina, where she continued to work for the next 32 years, retiring on October 1, 1979 to care for her ailing mother and brother Gillis. Joyce was an active member of the community and Presbyterian church, an avid sports enthusiast - belonging to the Caledonian Curling Club, Lakeshore Tennis Club, and was a 40 year Rider season ticket holder. She was a great contributor to many charities, including World Vision where she sponsored numerous children. She was a member of the 1953 Perkin curling foursome that won the Western Canadian Women''s Championship and was inducted into the SK Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Joyce spent her latter years at the Bentley Residence in Regina, where she enjoyed playing bridge, scrabble and socializing with friends. A Service to Celebrate Joyce''s Life will be held today at First Presbyterian Church, 2170 Albert Street, Regina, SK, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. John Ferrier officiating.
