Joyce Smith CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Miss Joyce Louise Smith, 83, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at AvantŠ of Charlotte. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road with Pastor Larry Burns officiating. Burial will be private and the family will receive friends following the service. Joyce was a native of Rock Hill, S.C., the daughter of the late Floyd O. Smith and Alma Stowe Smith. She was a retiree of the Celanese Corporation with 44 years of diligent and dedicated service. She was charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist church where she was a member of the Friendship Bible Class and was a member of Mulberry Baptist church in Charlotte, N.C. and the Joy Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Pat Smith Cassells. She is survived by a brother, Richard O. Smith (Ann) of Rock Hill; her brother-in-law, Harvey Cassells of Charlotte, N.C.; her niece, Suzanne Roakes (Rob) of Salisbury, N.C.; nephews, Richard Smith Jr. (Lynne) of Albany, Ga.; Mike Smith (Teri) of Fort Mill, S.C. and Bryan Cassells of Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Mulberry Baptist Church, 4500 Tuckaseegee Rd., Charlotte, NC 28214. The family would like to give a special thanks to AvantŠ of Charlotte and the entire staff for their utmost care and respect given to Joyce.
