SIDNEY -- Joyce I. Hughes, 82, of Sidney, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Country Manor in Coopers Mills.She was born in Winslow Aug. 24, 1928, the daughter of Ira and Luella (Hughes) Ellis. Joyce was a graduate of Winslow High School and worked at several jobs in the area before marrying Harry Hughes Jr. in 1963. They lived most of their lives in Sidney.Joyce enjoyed many needle crafts and created many projects through the years. She also enjoyed flowers and beautiful fragrances. She loved spending time with her family and was a great keeper of family history. She enjoyed reading her Bible daily and was known as a true "prayer warrior."Mrs. Hughes was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harry Hughes Jr.; her sisters and their husbands, Louise and Walter Varney, Bernice and Melvin Ricker, Marjorie and Thomas Newell, and Shirley and Paul Marshall.She is survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Eastern Avenue (Route 17), Augusta. Relatives and friends may visit at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service for viewing and coffee hour.
