The funeral for Mrs. Joyce Chambliss Cox will be Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Florence. The Rev. Gary Formby will officiate. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.Mrs. Cox, 75, of Florence, passed away Tuesday at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. Joyce was born in Prattville to Lambert Alexander Chambliss and Lucile Wadsworth Chambliss and grew up in Montgomery. She had lived in Florence 51 years. She was a devoted wife and mother, enjoyed bridge and travel and was a member of First United Methodist Church.She had a powerful Christian witness and had a great love of people. She had been a sales consultant at Parisian in Regency Square since the store opened.Joyce is survived by her husband of 53 years, Maurice F. Cox; daughters, Lynn Cox, Spring, Texas, and Laurie Sloan, Florence; granddaughter, Lauren Sloan; sister, Doris Hull and husband, Robert, Parrish, Fla.; and niece, Joy Hull.Pallbearers will be Sam Hardie, Uhland Redd III, John Dupuis, Dr. Buddy Meeks, Bill Batson and Miles Carter. The Men's Bible Class, of First United Methodist Church, will serve as honorary pallbearers.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of First United Methodist Church.
