Joyce Beatrice Bailey, 83, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Friday, March 25, 2011, in her home with her family.Joyce was born on Jan. 2, 1928, in New Orleans. Joyce was a lifelong nurse in many forms. She was a member of the Lionesses, Silver- Haired Legislature, and an appointed ombudsman for patients. She organized medical relief for villages in Guatemala, and volunteered for Hospice, Girl Scouts, the Officers' Wives' Club and Air Commando Association. She was an active member of Good Sheppard Church. Her hobbies included cooking and traveling. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a mom, she was terrific. The most extraordinary thing about her was her consistent, never wavering example of a woman who genuinely lived life with faith and love as her cornerstone.She was preceded in death by her mother, Robbie Martin McElveen; her husband of 53 years, Frank Bailey; and her son, Frank J. Bailey.She is survived by one son, Randy A. Bailey and his wife, Eva, of Fort Walton Beach; two daughters, Terri McKenzie and her husband, Bob, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Robin Umberg and her husband, Tom, of California; seven grandchildren, Ricky Frantz, Jennifer Dufrene, Erin, Brett and Tommy Umberg, Connie Hedrick and Lisa Beitz; and two great-grandchildren, Kailey Bishop and Ellie Umberg.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. A private family burial will be held at Jesse Rogers Cemetery.
