<!-- FH = West Funeral Home -->Joy RayHendersonWeaverville - Joy Ray Henderson, age 79, of Scenic View Dr., died Thursday, January 3, 2013.Mr. Henderson was born October 4, 1933, in Buncombe County. He was a retired carpentry teacher from Asheville High School and served in the US Army. He was a member of Vision Missionary Baptist Church, Mars Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Tom Henderson and Flora Owenby Henderson; and sister, Ruby Nell Lewis.Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Shirley Griffin Henderson; daughter, Joy H. Odom and husband Rev. Dr. Richard Odom of Stokesdale; son, Michael D. Henderson and wife Debbie Garrison Henderson of Marshall; sister, Ruth Bryan of Broadway; brother, Jack Henderson of Alexander; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Oakley Baptist Church, 70 Fairview Rd., Asheville, NC 28803, with Rev. Dr. Richard Odom and Rev. Dr. Don R. McIntyre officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.At other times, the family will be at the residence.Memorial contributions may be made to Vision Missionary Baptist Church, Building Fund, 386 Phillips Valley Rd., Mars Hill, NC 28754.West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, is in charge of arrangements.For those who desire, condolences may be offered to the family under Mr. Henderson's obituary at www.WestFamilyFuneralServices.com.
