Joseph Powers Hooks, of Killen, Ala., passed away Feb. 19, 2012, leaving his mother, Jackie; and stepfather, Dr. Robert Richards; daughters, Elle Hooks and Alexx Hooks; sister, Lisa; nephews, Hunter and Victor; stepsisters, Carrie, Carla; and stepbrother, Curtis.Joseph was born June 6, 1966, in Ojai, Calif., living an idyllic California beach style, riding horses, snow skiing and riding motorcycles in the beautiful Sierra Madre Mountains, where he attended Ojai Valley Preparatory School, and excelled in wood shop. In 1977, he moved with his family Dr. Joe Hayes Hooks to the beautiful Shoals area, discovering the love of boating and waterskiing until this day. He attended Sheffield High School, University of North Alabama and Donnley Medical School in Kansas. As an entrepreneur, he owned several businesses. Joseph also loved building cars with an unprecedented passion. He was a technological genius. We admired his attention to details, starting with a hobby in high school with High End photography at the young age of 14.After a trip to Europe, while visiting the Louver in Paris, France, at the age of 9, he became fascinated with the Leonardo da Vinci portrait of Mona Lisa and has a copy with him until this day.We know Joseph lived on the lake and spent his last years enjoying the peace of the beautiful Tennessee River and attended the Church of Christ. The funeral will be Friday, Feb. 24, 2012. Visitation 11 a.m. and services at noon at Greenhill Funeral Home on U.S. 43.
