Obituary of Joseph-Edward McCormack


McCORMACK, JOSEPH EDWARD, 84, of Louisville, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008 at Norton Suburban Hospital. Born April 11, 1923 in Russellville, KY, he was a graduate of St. Xavier High School, class of 1942, Army veteran of World War II, retired employee of the old Bell South Phone Company after 37 years, lifetime member of the Pioneers, a member of the Communication Workers of America (CWA), member of the American and Louisville Rose Societies, and a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church. He also held dual Irish and American citizenship. He is preceded in death by his parents, James J. and Catherine Stone McCormack; sisters, Marcella, Mary Agnes, Ellen, Tess and Anita; and brother, Jimmy. He is survived by wife of 60 years, Dorothy Walton McCormack; son, Joseph E. McCormack Jr. (Anne); daughter, Molly McCormack; grandchildren, Finley and Noel Freibert and Lucas, Willa and Fiona McCormack; sisters, Josephine McCormack Novosel and Rita McCormack Day; and many nieces; and nephews. A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 1520 Hepburn Ave. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Monday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Donations can be made to the St. Xavier Scholarship Fund or the Talbot House. Joe's ashes will be scattered in his beloved Ireland.
