Jon P. Connelly, 85, Caliente Avenue, Port Orange, died at home Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008. He was born November 17, 1922, to John and Eva Connelly in Manhattan, Kansas. Jon lived in Kansas, Texas, and Minnesota before setting in Wisconsin until retirement. He attended grade school and part of high school in Milwaukee, Wis. He attended Burlington High School in this senior year and graduated in 1940. He was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific. Jon married Doris Jacobs at Norway Lutheran Church, Norway, Wis., on October 17, 1943. He was a former member of Cross Lutheran Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, Charter member of V.F.W. Post 2823, Burlington, Wis., Burlington Lions Club, and Sunrise Lions Club of Daytona Beach. Jon participated in the fund drive and construction of the Veterans Building and the Burlington Community Swimming Pool of which he was a member. He spent 26 years working for Wisconsin Bell Co. and retired as Central Office Foreman in 1973. He and his wife, Doris, owned and operated the Carousel in Burlington for seven years. Upon retiring he moved to Daytona Beach where he worked for ten years for Sears and Roebuck before retiring for the last time in 1984. Those who will remember Jon include his wife of 62 years, Doris; a son, Jack P. Connelly; grandchildren, Jef and Kimberly; and five great-grandchildren.
