TUSCALOOSA Jon A. Carter, age 52, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, died Thursday, January 5, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held at Circlewood Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama from 9 to 11 a.m. today, January 7, 2012. Immediately following, Jon will be moved to his hometown of Cullman, Alabama. Viewing will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at Simcoe United Methodist Church in Cullman, Alabama. The graveside service will follow.Jon was born October 25, 1959, and was raised in Cullman, Alabama. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1978 and went on to graduate from the University of Alabama in 1982 with a degree in business administration. He was actively involved in the Tuscaloosa community and local charitable organizations. Jon was an avid supporter of the University and all University athletics. He was also a proud member of the President's Cabinet. Jon was a lifelong employee of BBVA Compass Bank, having worked his way from their management training program through various leadership roles. He most recently served as City President for the Tuscaloosa market.Jon is survived by his son, Griffin, who was the most important person in Jon's life. They enjoyed traveling together on their many boating outings, playing golf, hunting, and attending Alabama sporting events. He is also survived by his parents, Edwin and Barbara; a brother, Kevin Carter (Angie); sisters, Maria Talley (Paul) and Kim Young (Curt); nieces, Sandy and Kattie Talley, Maegan Carter, and Abby and Sadie Young; and nephews, Jeremy (Misty) and Blake (Katina) Carter. He was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Carter; and his grandparents, Gerald and Mary Moore Carter and J.L. (Bus) and Idessia Carter. Other special family members include Trey Jernigan and Jordan, Ty, Jacob, and Tanner Townsend.Honorary pallbearers are his lunch crew at the 19th Hole at Indian Hills Country Club, the officers and staff of BBVA Compass and the DCH medical and nursing staff.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Simcoe Community Methodist Church Building Fund, Simcoe Community Methodist Church, 8708 Alabama Highway 69, Cullman, Alabama 35058.
