Obituary of John Williams


WILLIAMSDr. John Robert, MD, longtime resident of Cliffside Park, NJ and currently of Hilton Head Island, SC, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Memorial Day, May 28, 2007. Dr. Williams was born in NY, NY to John Edward Williams, a NY City fireman and Annie Mary Irwin on January 8, 1920. His childhood was spent growing up in North Bergen, NJ and graduated from Union Hill High School, Rutgers College and Long Island Downstate College of Medicine. He attended all three schools on academic scholarships. Dr. Williams was drafted into World War II and served as a physician and retired at the rank of Captain when the war was over. Following his military service, Dr. Williams was a dedicated family practitioner and urologist who practiced at Englewood Hospital, Englewood, NJ. He made house calls, delivered his patients' babies and managed his devoted patients' care through generations until he retired in 1987. Along with these responsibilities, he was a public health official for many years in Cliffside Park, NJ and a proud member of the Shriners, Masons and the Survivors of Pearl Harbor. He relocated to Hilton Head in 2004. Dr. Williams was predeceased by his beloved wife Alice A. Williams (nee Woodcock). He is survived by his devoted children Judith Ann Williams of New Brunswick, NJ; Jill Elizabeth Williams and her husband Larry J. McClure of Hilton Head Island, SC; his loving grandchildren John and Christopher Petrolina, Christopher, Shane, Lawson, Roarke, Quinn, Rue Elizabeth Williams-McClure and Meredith Williams Donnelly; and his two great grandsons Mason and Gavin. Judith, Jill and Larry wish to thank all of their friends and the family and friends of Dr. John Williams for their support, generosity and kindness during his illness.
