WILLIAMS, John A., 73, of Tampa, died Sunday, July 16, 2006. A resident of Tampa for35 years, he is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Clark Williams; five children and their spouses, Lisa and Jim Parrino, Julie and Steve LeBrun, John and Lynley Williams, Kevin Williams, and Elaine and Ken Kanige; a brother, Robert Williams; two sisters, Marie Williams and Margaret Smith; and seven beautiful grandchildren, Tyler and Tarah Parrino, and Kristen, Stephanie, Kerry, Sarah and Casey LeBrun. His grandson, Matthew LeBrun, and a sister, Kay Bride, predeceased him. John graduated from Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo., where he lettered in basketball and baseball 1950-54. For his athletic accomplishments, he was formally inducted into the Rockhurst University Athletics Hall of Fame in September 2006. After graduation from college, John served in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he anchored third base for the 1955 USAREUR Rhine League Champions. He joined Procter ' Gamble in 1960 and worked in various sales management capacities until his retirement in 1989. John was well known for generously giving of his time, talent and service and was actively and enthusiastically involved in numerous parish activities at Incarnation Catholic Church. He served on the pastoral council, finance council, and the building and renovation committee, and chaired the parish vocations committee and the parish carnival. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served and was a past grand knight of the Bishop Miege Council in Kansas City, Mo. He also held numerous leadership positions in Council 8612 at Incarnation. In November 2005, John was selected by his parish to receive the St. Jude the Apostle Medal, which is given each year in the Diocese of St. Petersburg as a way to recognize those who show distinguished and outstanding service. Like the saint whose name the medal carries, John always stepped in during times when help was most needed and will forever be remembered as a gentle, selfless, loving husband, father and friend. A vigil will take place 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Blount ' Curry Funeral Home, West Chapel, 6802 Silvermill Drive. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am. Thursday at Incarnation Catholic Church. The family is especially grateful for the compassionate and professional care provided by Dr. Christopher B. George, M.D., and the staff at Bay Area Oncology as well as the kindhearted and dedicated nurses from the third floor of the Clyde Perry Cancer Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Incarnation Catholic School Sports Pavilion Fund or the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge.
