U.S. ArmyGULFPORT, Miss. -- Mr. John Warren Van Horn of Gulfport, Miss., formerly of Lakeland, died of a heart attack Nov. 9, 2003, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. He was 82.Born in Oakhurst in March, 1921, he lived in Lakeland befofe moving to Gulfport, Miss. He was retired from the Army. He and served in World War II under Gen. George S. Patton in the European Theater and in Japan in the Pacific Theater. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and received numerous medals, including the United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star. He also retired from Callaway Gardens in Georgia.Mr. Van Horn is survived by his daughter, Karen Van Horn Ragland, Pine Mountain Valley, Ga.; brother, Albert J. Van Horn, Jacksonville; sisters, Alice Jane Sharp, Fort Meade, Helen V.H. Baines, Tampa; companion, Betty Y. Tsai, Waldo; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars' charities.
