John Thomas Horn, 21, Monticello, died at 3:40 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in West Lafayette. He was born on Feb. 2, 1988 in Delta, Colo., to Walter M. and Susan E. Horn. They survive in Monticello. He attended Twin Lakes School Corporation through his sophomore year. He then attended The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities from which he graduated in 2006. He attended Purdue University for one academic year. He also attended Ivy Tech, Monticello this past semester. He planned to attend Indiana University this fall. He joined the National Guard in 2007 and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was deployed to Iraq in 2008 and served in Co B 1-293 INF. Other survivors include a brother, Walter Patrick Horn, Monticello; grandparents Darlene and James Ball, Denver, Colo. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Doris Jane and Captain Walter B. Horn. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 17 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Ill., with full military rites.
