John Smith Ware III died on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009. He was 93. Born May 10, 1916, he was a son of Mildred and John Smith Ware Jr. of Short Hills. Mr. Ware was a graduate of the Casey Jones School of Aeronautics and Newark College of Engineering. He was a professional engineer who built airplanes for Fairchild Aircraft during World War II. He later worked at Picatinny Arsenal and maintained a consulting practice for many years. A longtime resident of Short Hills, Mr. Ware was a deacon at Wyoming Presbyterian Church, and was active as a Scout leader for many years. He was a charter member of the Picatinny Toastmasters Club. In 1996, he retired to Heath Village in Hackettstown, where he served as program chairman of the Tuesday Evening Club. He was also active in the Trinity United Methodist Church Men's Club and the Millburn Old Guard. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Fielder Ware of Heath Village in Hackettstown. He will also be greatly missed by his children, Patricia Janssen (wife of the late Richard) of Churchville, Pa., Christine Lupo and her husband, Will, of Califon, and John Smith Ware IV and his wife, Lynn, of Denville. He leaves three grandchildren, William Ian Janssen and his wife, Michelle, Jonathan Andrew Janssen and John Smith Ware V, and two great-grandchildren, Kira and Kaitlyn Janssen. Also mourning his loss are his sister, Janice (wife of the late William) Irwin, of Basking Ridge, and his brother, Malcolm D. Ware and his wife, Margie, of Pinehurst, N.C. He is also survived by one niece, numerous nephews, and many friends. Visitation is Sunday, Nov. 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Scala Memorial Home, 124 High St., Hackettstown, N.J. Funeral service is on Monday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 218 Main St., Hackettstown, followed immediately by a luncheon. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heath Village Friendship Fund (908)852-4801 or Trinity United Methodist Church for their mission programs (908)852-3020.
