Obituary of John-Samuel Henry


John Samuel Henry, 79, a Cape Coral, Florida resident since 1986, formerly of Mahopac, New York, died April 18, 2004. He was born May 4, 1924 in Rotherham, England to the late John and Violet Henry. He served in the British Royal Navy during World War II from 1942 until 1946, and saw active duty in North Africa, Italy, France and Yugoslavia. He served as a conductor from 1947 until his retirement in 1984. In 1975, he was the recipient of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman's Award. More recently, he was a member of the Caloosa Carvers Club, Ft. Meyers, Florida. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Tomasina Henry of Cape Coral, Florida; six children: Elizabeth M. Henry of Cape Coral, Florida, John Steven Henry and wife Madeline of Poughkeepsie, NY, Doreen Fitzpatrick and husband Brian, also of Poughkeepsie, NY, Deborah Levin and husband Jay of Fanwood, NJ, Cecilia Plantek and fiance Robert Whyte of Collingswood, NJ, and Michael D. Henry of Poughkeepsie, NY. Other survivors include his grandchildren Kara Kaplan and Ari Kaplan, James Fitzpatrick and Michelle Terry, Megan Fitzpatrick and Bradley Dingle, Christopher Henry, Matthew Henry, Andrew J. Onello, Lauren and Michael John Henry and their mother, Suzanne Henry. Services were private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Parkway, Cape Coral, Florida 33990.
