John-R. Lee, born in 1925, spouse of Lois Lee, father of Mackenzie, Alexa, Erika, Lindsey, Kyle, Kevin and Jaclyn, died on April 9, 2009 at 83 years old.

"Jack" Lee, 83, of Sarasota, Fla., died April 9, 2009.Jack is survived by his wife, Lois, residing in Sarasota, and his children's families: Jim and Gordi Lee and their children, Mackenzie and Alexa, in Fishers, Ind., Budd and Cindy Lee and their children, Erika and Lindsey, in Midland, Mich., and Jane and Brian Beams and their children, Kyle, Kevin and Jaclyn, in Agoura Hills, Calif., all of whom will remember him as a loving, devoted and involved husband, father and grandfather. All of us will be ever thankful for the skill he possessed in balancing his many business accomplishments with all the wonderful family times spent together over the years. Jack's support of his family and friends is, and will be, an example for generations to follow.Jack's career accomplishments included: Midland High School, Midland, Mich., Class of '43; ensign, U.S. Navy, aviator, discharged October 1945; graduate, University of Michigan, 1949 (Go Blue!); Delta Tau Delta fraternity; employed by Lee Implement Company (Mount Pleasant, Mich.). He began his 35-year career with the Dow Chemical Co. in Midland as a field salesman in 1952. His time with Dow Chemical was highlighted by many accomplishments, including: marketing positions; general manager, Houston sales office; director of sales, Dow Chemical USA; and vice president and general manager of the health and consumer products division in Indianapolis -- a position from which he retired in 1988.Jack Lee became a part of the Indianapolis community, serving in positions including: director of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce; United Way of Indianapolis; chairman of the board of directors for the Indianapolis Zoological Society; vice chairman of the capital campaign for the relocation of the Indianapolis Zoo to its current location; chairman of Butler University board of trustees; and the Indianapolis 500 Festival Committee. He was an elder as Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis.Jack and Lois Lee spent their winters in Sarasota and summers at Lake Charlevoix in Boyne City, Mich., where they enjoyed sailing, golfing, snow skiing and time well spent with friends. A celebration of Jack Lee's life will be held at a later date in Sarasota.
