John-McGowan Michaud, born in 1944, son of Norman-J. -Michaud and Helen, father of Nell Maureen, Jon, Wi, Anne, Il, Katye, Kendra, Matt and MI, died on September 2, 2014 at 69 years old.
-> BANGOR - John McGowan Michaud, 69, passed away peacefully September 2, 2014, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor, Maine. John was born September 3, 1944 in Presque Isle, ME son of Norman J. Michaud and Helen (McGowan) Michaud. John graduated from Ashland Community High School. In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Navy and attended radio and communication school in San Diego, CA. He was later stationed at Subic Bay, the Navy Communication Center in San Miguel, Philippines. John spent many professional years in the field of broadcasting. He worked as a radio personality at WDHP and WFST in Caribou. In 1978, he was elected president of the Maine Broadcasters Association. After receiving his BS Degree from the University of Maine Presque Isle, he taught reading and English in Bingham and Orrington. He returned to broadcasting for a few years before retiring. John was a gifted trumpet player. During high school, he was chosen for the All State Band. He played for dances and events in Aroostook County. Often, he was found playing the drums, piano, and banjo. John was interested in art, theater, reading, and writing. During his education at the University of Maine, he performed in plays and musicals. His favorite lead was that of Norman in "On Golden Pond." After moving to Bangor, he wrote movie reviews and articles for the Franco American Centre's Le Forum newspaper at the University of Maine, Orono. John loved the great outdoors and all the beauty and peace that nature had to offer. He was happy spending time in the northern Maine woods fly fishing with family and friends. His humor was evident when he spun many a fish tale. John is survived by his four daughters, Nell Maureen Tiedeman and her husband, Jon of Verona, WI; Anne Michaud of Chicago, IL; Katye Michaud of Chicago, IL; Kendra Symbal and her husband, Matt of Marquette, MI; brother, Ernest Michaud and his wife, Marcia of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; sisters, Deborah Maddi and her husband, Dennis of Winthrop, ME; Julie Michaud of Bangor; Maggie Michaud of Hermon; five grandchildren, Ella, Jack, and Lily Tiedeman, Hunter and Evy Symbal; former wife, Joan Vinette of Munising, MI. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Mary Jacobs for her friendship. The family also expresses their gratitude to the staff at the Maine Veterans' Home for the exceptional compassionate care given to John during his 3 years at the home. A private burial service will be held at the Maine Veterans' Cemetery, Augusta at a later date. Donations in John's memory may be made to the Maine Veterans' Home Activities, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401 designated for music materials and activities for Unit B.
