funeral homeELLIOTT John M. Elliott died on Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in West Haven. After a lengthy battle to survive with countless health problems, and the willingness to persevere and live despite a long hospital stay with constant complications, John lost his battle to survive. John was born on September 25, 1925 in Stamford to the late Anna Daniels Elliott and Stephen Elliott. John, a veteran of World War II served in the United States Army; he was proud of his service in the Battle of the Bulge. John was a member of the Bricklayers and Masons Union. He was employed as B&B foreman for Conrail before his retirement. He was also a life member pf the Disabled American Veterans, chapter #13 Stamford. John was a golfer and jazz enthusiast. He is survived by three children, Cheryl B. Griffin of Milford, John M. Elliott of Bridgeport, and Brian S. (Karen) Elliott of Boca Raton, Fla.; a brother Earl Elliott of Waterbury; his grandchildren, Anthony D. Paul, Ian J. Griffin, Yvonne Elliott, and Eric A. Elliott. He was predeceased by two sisters, Vivian Myers, and Edith Elliott; six brothers, Stephen Elliott, Thomas Elliott, Wilbert Elliott, Louis Elliott, Robert Elliott, and Leroy Elliott. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Downer Funeral Home Chapel, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford. Funeral Services will immediately follow. Burial with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Middletown Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Arrangements entrusted to Downer Funeral Homes, Inc., 31 Stillwater Ave. Stamford.
