Hartselle<!--Hartselle-->Funeral for John Lewis Smith III, 42, of Hartselle will be Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Cyphers officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitatation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Mr. Smith, who died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, in Hartselle, was born May 12, 1967, in Etowah County to John Lewis and Barbara Hoge Smith Jr. He was a member of Decatur Baptist Church and a 1985 graduate of Austin High School. John served in the military during Desert Shield and Desert Storm as an MP and was a former Decatur Police officer for two years. He was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker. Survivors include his wife, Leigh Ann Smith; two sons, Joshua L. Smith and Aaron L. Smith, both of Hartselle; parents, John and Barbara Smith of Danville; brother, Jason Smith of Priceville; mother and father-in-law, Steve and Sheila Glenn of Decatur; and grandmother, Mable Huie Hoge of Attalla. Pallbearers will be the military. Honorary pallbearers will be David Prince, Mark Hoge, Tim Brown, Craig Hoge, Kent Martin, Alex Hoge, Michael Kelso and Keith Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
