LAKELAND, Fla. - John "Jack" Lee, 85, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, following a brief illness. He was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Castleton, Vt., the son of Joseph and Mary (Hayes) Lee. He married Lorraine Moulton of North Clarendon, Vt., on June 17, 1962. He grew up in Rutland, where he received his early education. He enjoyed the Boy Scouts and hiking the Long Trail. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Castleton State College and Boston University, graduating with a master's degree in education. He taught classes at Middletown Springs School and at Peacham Academy. Later, he started a career with the U.S. Customs and Immigration Service. He served on the Canadian-Vermont border and at Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C., and Herndon, Va. He retired in 1985, and moved with his family to Lakeland, Fla. There he taught in the Florida Prison System from 1987-1997. He was a gentle person, and always had a book in his hand. He especially enjoyed history, geography, government and politics.
