John Clifton Langford, 92, of 101 Rutledge Ave., husband of Eva Connelly Langford, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown. Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late John M. and Ada Guest Langford. Mr. Langford was a machinist with Piedmont and Northern Railway and retired from Seaboard Coast Line. Earlier in his career, he was a Master Welder instructor at Savannah Ship Builders during World War II. He was a member of Sans Souci Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class, and was a former deacon. He was a former member of Piedmont Park Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, Sunday school teacher, and treasurer. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 69 years, are a daughter, Betsy McClure of Greenville; a granddaughter, Melanie Schlaginhaufen, and her husband, Rick, of Greensboro, N.C.; and a great-grandson, Eric Schlaginhaufen of Greensboro, N.C. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Travis; three brothers, Bert, Fred, and Ralph Langford; and a sister, Gertie Cauthen. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
