John Harvey Langford, 71, of 606 Henderson Circle, died July 26, 2004, at his home.A native of Greenville County, son of the late James Tyre and Orpha Childress Langford, he was a retired employee of Hoechst Celanese, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Langford was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church, where he taught the Fellowship Sunday School Class, and was a former deacon. His first wife was the late Martha Ponder Langford.Surviving are his wife, Vernie Pridmore Langford, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Clennon Hucks, of Greer; a son, James Keith Langford, of Perryopolis, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Becky Pickett, and her husband, Jim, of Greer; two stepsons, Steve Johnson, of Columbia, and David Johnson, of Travelers Rest; two sisters, Ruth Webb, of Travelers Rest, and Sara Frances Lynn, of Taylors; and six grandchildren. Mr. Langford was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Watts.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Joe Seay and Elder Bob Dickerson. Burial will follow at Wood Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be James Allen, Butch Garrett, Kirk Hind, Viron Watson, Rick Lynn and Ed Webb.Honorary escort will be the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Christian Business Men's Association.Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at The Wood Mortuary.The family is at the home.Memorials may be made to El Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 113 Jones Ave., Greer, SC 29650.
