Obituary of John-Joy-Cornell III


John Joy Cornell III, of 5 Brookside Drive, died Tuesday morning Aug. 27, 2002, at his home. Born in Travelers Rest, he was a son of the late Pauline and John Cornell. After graduating form Appalachian State University, Mr. Cornell taught school for over 20 years. He was a dedicated special education teacher at Tanglewood Elementary School for most of his school tenure. John was an Eagle Scout and was a member of Travelers Rest United Methodist Church. Surviving are his sisters, Jackie Cornell Duke of Houston, Texas, and Joy Cornell Swiecki of Rome, N.Y.; special friends, Lydia, Priscilla, Brian, Renee and Thomas Donald, of Travelers Rest; a niece, Paula Martinez; and nephews, Phillip Duke, John Swiecki and Bret Willingham. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. this afternoon at Travelers Rest United Methodist Church Chapel, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends, at the church, after the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Boy Scouts Troop No. 269 of Travelers Rest United Methodist Church, 19 S. Main St., Travelers Rest, SC 29690. The Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest. "Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever" The Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest, is in charge of arrangements.
