Daunt , John J., IIIOct. 22, 1942 - May 21, 2012John J. Daunt, III (Jack), 69, of Sarasota passed away at his home after a 17 month battle with GBM brain cancer. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 48 years, and his father, Col. John J. Daunt, Jr. USAF, Rtd. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Pearson Daunt.Jack graduated from Shepherd University and began his government career as a management intern in aerospace technology at the Manned Spacecraft Center, NASA, Houston, TX where he worked in research and development on Project Apollo. Jack moved to Sarasota from Charlotte NC in 1982 with his wife, Carol. Together they founded Gemstone Corporation of America, Sunchaser Marine, Inc., and Better Brazil Tour Operators. Since living in Rio de Janeiro as a child, Jack had a deep fondness for Brazil and its people.Jack had a deep love for the Catholic faith as his way of knowing and being close to God.His life long faith journey is contained in his book "Spirit Story, God in Real Time". He had no fear of initiating conversations about God with those he would meet. He saw his primary mission as building bridges between Catholics and others, especially Southern Baptists.Special thanks to Msgr. James McGovern, Albert Nichol, Dr. Ryan Glasser, the staff at Tidewell Hospice, the staff at Youthful Aging Home Health Care, and the staff and parishioners at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Siesta Key, on Friday, May 25 at 10:00 AM. Memorials in his name may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church or to Tidewell Hospice.
