Obituary of John-Harvey Michaud


PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- John Harvey Michaud, 91, of Perryville died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Perry County Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 22, 1914, in Perryville, son of Charles W. and Henrietta M. Millfeldt Michaud. He and Cassie L. Calhoun were married June 10, 1960, in Fillmore, Calif. Michaud worked 21 years at International Shoe Co., and 25 years at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., retiring in 1976. He was a member of American Legion Post 133, VFW Post 4282 and DAV Post 45. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, assigned to the European Theater. He participated in the Normandy invasion and Casablanca, Sicily and Salerno landings. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other awards and medals. He was instrumental in bringing the USS LST 325 from Greece back to the United States in 2000. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Betty Hartman of Ballwin, Mo., Melba Thompson of St. Charles, Mo., Joann Aldridge of Kirkwood, Mo.; a son, Larry Michaud of Springfield, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Velma Liszewski of Nashville, Ill., Mary Price of Las Vegas, Nev., Susan Updike of Culpepper, Va.; two stepsons, William Knapp of St. Mary, Mo., Dennis Knapp of O'Fallon, Mo. He is also survived by two brothers, Harold and Russell Michaud of Perryville; a sister, Helen Triller of St. Louis; 42 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and two stepchildren. Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:50 a.m. The parish wake will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the American Legion service at 6 and VFW service at 6:30. The funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Thess officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with graveside military honors by the American Legion.
