John Harry Underwood SAINT SIMON'S ISLAND, GA-- John Harry Underwood, 69, of Saint Simon's Island, Georgia passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013. He was the son of the late Greene and Sarah Underwood of Swainsboro, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra Shelton Underwood. He is also survived by his son, Robert Jackson Underwood, his daughter-in-law, Mary Welborn Underwood, and his grandchildren, Sandra Webb Underwood and Jackson Martin Underwood of Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is also survived by his late brother, Robert Greene Underwood, and sister, Helen Jean Underwood's children: Jill Barrett, John Young Barrett, Robert Greene Underwood, Jr., and Donna Marie Underwood, their children and grandchildren. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a Master's in Textile Chemistry. He then worked at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma prior to working 21 years for Hoechst Celanese, then 5 years at Rayonier. He will be cremated and have a graveside service at Brinson Family Cemetery in Swainsboro, Georgia on Tuesday, November 19 at 11am. There will also be a memorial service on Saint Simon's Island at a date to be determined. Donations are requested for The Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration or The Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia in lieu of flowers.
