John Hanlon died Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. He was 63. The son of the late Augustus and Marguerite M. (Aucoin) Hanlon, he was born, raised and educated in Waltham, where he resided until moving to Maynard in 1986. Mr. Hanlon served in the Army and was stationed in Korea serving as a Sergeant. He was a member of the DAV. A entrepreneur, Mr. Hanlon owned and ran the former John and Una's Restaurant in Waltham, the Coffee, Tea and Melody in Stow, and J.P. O'Hanlon's in Ayer. Mr. Hanlon was currently employed by Case Transportation as a driver for special needs students, a cause near and dear to his heart. John enjoyed anything Irish, especially music, refurbishing musical instruments, and fishing. He loved travelling to explore the British Isles and researching his heritage in Ireland and Newfoundland. Anywhere he went, he brought a smile, corny jokes, and a box of chocolates. He is survived by his daughter, Maura H. Smith and her husband, Todd of San Jose, Calif., his son, Brian Augustus Hanlon of Co. Cork, Ireland, his sisters, Marguerite "Mimi" Sullivan of Florida, Jeannine Davis of Florida and Mary Lou Fish of Framingham, his brothers, Richard Hanlon of Hudson, J. Michael Hanlon, James E. Hanlon and Terence Hanlon all of Waltham and his devoted companion, Ms. Rod Jennette of Leominster. He was the brother of the late Paul Hanlon and Maurice "Moe" Hanlon. Services have been held.
