John G. Williams, 86, Sarasota, died Jan. 24, 2004. He was born Sept. 2, 1917, in New York City and came to Sarasota 37 years ago from Manasquan, N.J. He retired in 1985 after 45 years in banking in New York City, Asbury Park, N.J., Orlando and as vice chairman and secretary of the board of directors, and trust consultant of SunTrust Bank in Sarasota. He graduated from the American Institute of Banking, Washington, D.C., and was in the Army Infantry during World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was awarded a Bronze Star and three Battle Stars and was discharged as a sergeant. He was past president of the Sarasota Family YMCA, a member of Bird Key Yacht Club and Pine Shores Presbyterian Church. He was a licensed private pilot. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gail L.; a daughter, Gayle W. Elliott of Aiken, S.C.; and two grandsons. Memorial services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Bay Village.
