John Francis Newell III, 65 LIMERICK -- John Francis Newell III, 65, of the Burnham Road, passed peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, after a lengthy battle with cancer. John was at his home in Limerick surrounded by his many friends and loving family. John was born on Oct. 3, 1946, to parents, John and Hattie (Russell) Newell II. Born a twin to his sister, Jackie, John was the second youngest of four children. John was born in Freedom and later lived with his family until the age of seven in Albion with his maternal grandparents. In 1953 the family settled in Limerick. Limerick would be John's home for the rest of his life. John attended Limerick schools and lent his many talents to various jobs throughout his life. He worked at the Limerick Shoe Shop for several years. He also worked several years for both Hillcrest Poultry in Limerick and for Aero-Fab at the Sanford Airport. He later worked several more years at LePage's Auto in Limerick. Most recently, he worked at the Limerick Transfer Station. John loved hiking and biking, from the trails and roads along the hills of Western Maine, to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, to the shores the Atlantic Ocean. He was very proud to have bicycled through every town in York County. He also loved to go fishing and loved his cats. An intelligent conversationalist, John loved passing on his knowledge of the historical happenings of the many towns in Maine. One of John's strengths was his passion for dates and numbers. His ability to recall intricate details and facts was like no other person. He would amaze his friends with his ability to remember the date from when he first met them. John was a very special, gentle and kind human being and a gift to those fortunate enough to meet and know him. His blue eyes and sweet smile will be greatly missed by those who loved him. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Granville.
