John-F. -Murphy III, born in 1929, spouse of Maureen-Coleman Murphy, father of James, Maureen G, Leon, Tara E, Nancy, James J, Peter T, Kevin G and John F. Murphy, died on August 17, 2005 at 76 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
MURPHY John F. Murphy III, age 76, of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Maureen Coleman Murphy, died on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at his home. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late John F. Murphy Jr. and Dorothy Brennan Murphy and had been a Trumbull resident since 1958. Mr. Murphy was a graduate of Fairfield College Preparatory School and Georgetown University. During the Korean War, he served as a U.S. Army officer where he completed ranger training and spent several years on active duty and then as an active reservist. Mr. Murphy was the retired president of the outdoor advertising firm, Murphy Inc., Bridgeport and was a director of the Outdoor Advertising Association of America. He was chairman of the former Connecticut Safety Commission, served on the Trumbull Town Council, a member of the Trumbull Exchange Club, the Rotary Club of Bridgeport and had been active in the Greater Bridgeport business community. Mr. Murphy worked on the team that raised funds to build the present St. Theresa's Church, Trumbull and the diocesan high schools. He was in the first group of lectors and commentators at St. Theresa's Church and involved in many church activities over the years. A former member of the Bridgeport YMCA, he had been an avid jogger and placed third for his age group in a New York Marathon in the early 1980s. Survivors include four sons, John F. Murphy IV, Kevin G. Murphy and Peter T. Murphy, all of Trumbull and James J. Murphy and wife, Nancy, of Shelton; two daughters, Tara E. Johnson and husband, Leon, of Voluntown and Maureen G. Forno and husband, James, of Monroe; five grandsons; stepmother, Isabel Murphy of Southport; stepbrother, Brian Murphy of Florida; stepsister, Jill Murphy of New York; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Joan O'Donnell. Funeral services will be held on Monday, at 10 a.m. direct to St. Theresa's Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
