John E. "Jack" McKenna 1934 - 2009 WOODFORD John E. "Jack" McKenna, 75, husband of Shereen Croff McKenna, a resident of Route 9, Woodford, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009 at his residence following a long illness. Born in Manchester, Conn., Jan. 23, 1934, son of John E. and Marjorie Krah McKenna. Jack received his education in the Middletown, Conn., schools and was a 1952 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School there. He married the former Janice Elaine Gallagher in Middletown on May 1, 1953. Janice died Aug. 18, 1972. In 1990 Jack and Shereen met and they enjoyed 19 wonderful years together. They were married at their home in Woodford on April 21, 2001. In 1965 Jack founded McKenna Machine in East Hampton, Conn., and Woodford. He retired in 1996 and the business was passed on to his son Gene. A life member of the East Hampton Lions Club, Jack had also served as a Boy Scout leader in earlier years. An avid snowmobiler, Jack was a founding member and past president of the Woodford SnoBusters and was a life member of both the SnoBusters and the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers (VAST). He served as the trailmaster of the organization for many years. Jack was appointed to the Vermont Governors Snowmobile Council as the VAST representative where he served two terms and was also the Bennington County Trail Coordinator for many years. Jack enjoyed traveling, playing golf and the company of his faithful dog "Raven". He leaves his wife, Shereen McKenna of Woodford, three children, Michael McKenna of North Richland Hills, Texas, Sharon Tucker of Colchester, Conn., and Gene McKenna of Bennington; three step-children, Michael Main of Shushan, N.Y., Stephen Main of Bennington and Kathleen Main of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Priscilla "Jill" Lineberry and Marjorie Gray, both of Middletown, Conn., two half-sisters, Suzanne Robitaille of East Longmeadow, Mass., and Jean Broderick of Hampton, Mass.; a cousin, George Harger of Enfield, Conn.; his mother-in-law, Ethel Croff of Bennington; two very special friends, Susan Walsh and Bob Babson of Bennington and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack was predeceased by a grandson, Marty Oktavec and a brother, Charles Haig. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of the North Bennington Congregational Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Committal services will be held at Lake View Cemetery in East Hampton, Conn., on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 at 12 Noon. Should friends desire contributions in John E.
