John E. Klingensmith, II, 60, of Callaway, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011, at a local hospital.John was born in Savannah, GA, and began his police career with the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department November 1968. In 1974 John moved to Bay County, where he became a member of the Bay County Sheriffs Office. John retired as a Sergeant at the Bay County Sheriff's Department Warrants Division in 2002. Three years ago, John came out of retirement and worked for the Bay County Sheriff's Office until present time. John was Catholic by faith, and enjoyed SCUBA diving, hunting, fishing, knife making and all outdoor sports. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Klingensmith.Survivors include his loving wife, Sonya Klingensmith of Callaway; his children, Patricia Marie Klingensmith-Hood (David) of Cleveland, GA, Shronda Myers of Panama City, Jason Klingensmith (Stacy) of Panama City, and Jana Klingensmith-Hixson (Jesse) of Panama City; his mother-in-law, Betty Moses of Panama City; a sister, Bonnie Moore of Irving, TX; his brother, James Klingensmith (Mary Lou) of Missouri; his aunt, Iris Brown of Panama City; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Myers, Jordan Suggs-Hood, Travis Klingensmith, Jocelyn Fabjon, David Klingensmith, Sarah Myers, Erin Marie Hood, and John Martin Hixson; and numerous nieces and nephews.A funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Hodges, Sheriff Frank McKeithen, and Deacon Roger Gallagher officiating. Interment with honors by the Bay County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard will follow at Callaway Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Asked to serve as pallbearers are John Corley, Mark Dufresne, Terry Hagan, John Bailey, Glen Miller and J. D. Nolin.
